The last meeting of the participants of the international Halden Reactor Project (HRP) took place on 21 and 22 September in Řež under the leadership of Jan Klouzal and colleagues from his Nuclear Safety and Reliability Division.
The project was initiated in 1958 with the help of the OECD NEA and was the longest-running project in the history of the OECD. Since then, it has significantly contributed to the development of nuclear energy by testing innovative nuclear fuels and materials in the unique Halden Reactor.
After the sudden shutdown of the reactor in 2018, the project continued and with the active participation of the UJV prepared the database summarising 50 years of its results and facilitated the transfer of the experimental activities to other research reactors, including LVR-15 of the Research Centre Řez. Here, the team of the Research Centre Řez’s experts successfully builds on the HRP legacy both in the bilateral activities and in the HRP’s successor project – FIDES II.
