In the week of May 23, the second year of an international meeting of specialists who are involved in the qualification of equipment for operation in the demanding environment of nuclear power plants (2nd International Equipment Qualification in Nuclear Installations Meeting) took place in our Conference Centre. The event under the baton of Vít Plaček´s team from the Department of Radiation Chemistry and Environmental Qualification (2305) of the Integrity and Technical Engineering Division (2300) followed up, after a pandemic-forced break, on its first successful year in 2019.
The aim of the meeting was to exchange experience and knowledge about the entire process of equipment qualification - i.e., from inputs, through implementation to maintenance. Requirements for performance in use and conditions of testing laboratories and suppliers, and the need for quality assurance during testing, production, and installation of components were addressed. During the negotiations, new research needs were also defined.
Surprisingly, the bet on the exclusively attendance format of the meeting more than paid off. The interest was enormous, our hall was fully occupied by participants from all over the world. Several commercial sponsors who presented products or posters also showed interest in this year´s event. Of course, the fact that the conference was held under the IAEA auspices, was also very prestigious for us.
The program of the four-day meeting was truly busy, but fortunately, the organization ran like a clockwork. Longer breaks provided enough time for personal meetings and informal discussions, a benefit that was greatly highlighted by the participants of the first year. The accompanying program also included a social evening in Prague and a small lightening in the form of beer tasting (local samples from Řež competed with Argentinian ones). Our guests, just as domestic participants, highly appreciated the course and outcomes of the conference, both professionally and socially. Other years of the EQ Meeting are therefore very likely to follow.
We congratulate our colleagues from the Department of Radiation Chemistry and Environmental Qualification on their internationally successful event and presentation!
